Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not sure what functional medicine is, can you give me a quick definition?

There are a lot of nutrition courses out there. What makes this training program so unique?

I presently use a popular nutritional program which is being aggressively marketed in the chiropractic profession. The main focus of this program is muscle testing to discover the
underlying health problem. Why would I want to invest in your program when I can quickly uncover a patient's health problem via muscle testing?

I am interested in the promotion and step-by-step implementation/integration of FM within my chiropractic office. How do I transition from a subluxation/manipulative based practice to
practice FM?

How is FMU different from other Functional Medicine Training Programs?

I heard I can apply 200 hours from FMU toward getting a Diplomate in Clinical Nutrition. Is this true? What is the difference between the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition and The American Clinical Board of Nutrition?

One concern I see with a functional medicine approach is patients may be reluctant to pay for lab tests if the labs are not going to be covered by their insurance. They may choose a "stab in the dark" approach because it is cheaper.

I'm new to all this and would like to know where to start. A patient walks in with a complaint or symptom. Exactly where do I begin? What questions do I need to ask? How do I prioritize the findings so that patients don't walk out with a sack full of pills to treat each condition I find?

Will I legally be able to implement these techniques?

Is FM within scope of my practice as a DC? For instance the State of California likes to come down on DCs who claim to treat non-musculoskeletal conditions.

How do we improve compliance with testing and supplement? How do we teach patients to follow through and comply with diet and supplements?

Is practicing functional medicine profitable? Will I need to raise my fees?

What conditions are best suited for FM? How do we identify which patients are the best candidates for FM?

What's the time required to complete the course?

Can I use your online training program for my CEU requirements?

What does it cost? What is the tuition?

Is there a money-back guarantee?

When you recommend supplements to resolve functional problems, do you use specific products, companies or give us descriptions or ingredient breakdowns of the type of product to use? Are you aligned with a specific nutritional company?

I live in the UK and am very interested in your program can I participate? I don't really want to have to stay up all night to attend a live event.

When is the training program going to start? When can I register?

Has Functional Medicine University been approved by an accredited agency or schools within the Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Naturopathic industry?

Will the FMU student need to do the leg work in submitting course materials to the individual states in which they are licensed for the states to grant ceu approval and status?

Will there be additional cost and expense required to obtain the CEUs?

I am not a physician/licensed doctor (MD, DC, ND and DO). but a holistic health care provider with numerous credentials. What are the limitations to the course and to practicing if I am not a
physician? (i.e. taking vitals, ordering blood tests, etc.)

Does FMU get a financial kickback from recommending a specific lab company?

Can I order blood test and functional medicine tests in New York and Rhode Island?

I live outside the US and am concerned that I will not be able to offer functional medicine in my country. What can I do?
