Functional Medicine University offers a Certificate in the Practice of Functional Medicine. Students interested in becoming one of our approved clinicians are required to complete and pass each module exam before moving onto the next module.  At the completion of all modules, a final examination is required. 

FMU takes pride in helping health professionals become recognized as functional medicine clinicians as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. To help you know what to expect, an overview of the certificate requirements are described below.

Requirements

All modules and module exams must be taken and passed.  At the completion of the program modules and exams, you are eligible to take the final examination. All module test results and scores are automatically sent to you via e-mail.  Based on your test results, you will be advised if you are able to move onto the next module or if you will be required to retake an exam.

All module test results and scores are reported to Functional Medicine University on an automated basis and retained in our database.  If you require extra help, our instructors are available for one-on-one consultations to assist you throughout the program. Taking these module exams and utilizing our support system will prepare you for the two part final examination.

Receiving and Maintaining your Certificate in the Practice of Functional Medicine

Upon successful completion of these requirements, you will be awarded a certificate that states you have earned a Certificate in the Practice of Functional Medicine.  This certificate is valid for a period of three years; at which time you will be required to take a new competency exam and pay renewal fees of $300.  This competency examination is voluntary and ensures that you have met the examination requirements and are knowledgeable in current research in the practice of functional medicine. At the time of renewal, you also be required to provide us with a current license number in good standing.

Functional Medicine University's Certificate in the Practice of Functional Medicine represents that the standards and requirements as put forth by the principal instructors of Functional Medicine University have been met as it relates to the practice functional medicine, however, it does not super cede your regulatory board regulations and laws. The certificate may be displayed as desired and holders of the certificate may state that they hold a Certificate in the Practice of Functional Medicine, however, they may not state that they are Certified in the Practice of Functional Medicine or are Certified as a Functional Medicine Practitioner or utilize any acronyms or letters as such after their names to reference as such. The certificate awarded by Functional Medicine University is not under the governing body of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. It is very important that you are aware of the parameters of your scope of practice and check with your governing board regarding state or province regulations.
